We are incredibly proud to announce that On the Verge Wales has been named a winner of the International Green Apple Environment Award 2025 for our flagship campaign, 1 Metre Matters!

This prestigious recognition places us “amongst the world’s leading environment champions”, and we couldn’t be more honoured.

Organised by The Green Organisation, which has been celebrating environmental best practice worldwide since 1994, the Green Apple Awards highlight the work of individuals, groups, and organisations who are making a real impact on sustainability and biodiversity — and we’re thrilled to be counted among them.

🌼 About #1MetreMatters

At On The Verge our major focus is to create wildlife habitats, in all sorts of places, specifically to increase the number and range of pollinators, of all shapes and sizes. The whole subject matter of insects, pollination and the importance to human food stocks is, sometimes, just too much of a massive subject to comprehend, let alone being able, or motivated enough, to make a difference in our everyday lives.

This is why On The Verge have introduced 1MetreMatters.

The overriding emphasis of 1MetreMatters is for people to not be overwhelmed by the whole environment issue and to concentrate their minds on choosing 1 metre of their space – indoor/patio/garden/nearby verges etc. 1MetreMatters is a great initiative to support wildlife in a small area. This simple achievable act is a powerful way to boost biodiversity and reconnect people with nature, right on their doorsteps.

What started as a local idea has grown into a widespread movement, inspiring action across Wales and beyond — proving that small changes can lead to big environmental wins.
